COMBINED REMOVAL OF N2O AND NOX GREENHOUSE GASES WITH ENVINOX TECHNOLOGY FROM THYSSENKRUPP

New South African legislation decrees that by April 1, 2020, existing plants must comply with Minimum Emission Standards (MES) for new plants in terms of meeting NO(Nitrogen Oxides) levels of less than 350 mg/Nm3. Some nitric acid plants are already compliant with the 2020 MES standards in terms of NOX. However, for other plants compliance with NOX emission requirements is border line, making it necessary to put new technology in place.

In chemistry, NOX is a generic term for the nitrogen oxides that are most relevant for air pollution. Nitrous oxide (N2O), commonly known as laughing gas, is produced as a by-product in...Read more

GLOVES IN A BOTTLE

The rate at which our world has been industrialised of the past few decades through manufacturing, engineering, construction, mining, and Petro-chemicals, to name just a few, has realised that employees involved in these hands-on processes are increasingly experiencing adverse work-related skin conditions such as severe dry, cracked, red, itchy or flaky skin. Invariably, this is due to employees, even though they are wearing the prescribed safety apparel, coming into continuous daily contact with skin moisture depleting irritants.

WHAT IS A MOISTURE DEPLETING IRRITANT? This is an irritant that has the ability to...Read more

IS YOUR DATA PROTECTED WHEN THE POWER FAILS?

Reliable power is in short supply in South Africa and outages are becoming increasingly common, leaving businesses unable to access their systems or data. Not all businesses have the financial and physical capacity to retain an alternative power source, such as a generator, uninterrupted power supply (UPS) or even a solar solution. When a power outage strikes, the business loses access to its system and staff are unable to work until the power returns.

The consequences of outages- Unfortunately, if the power does go out as a result of load shedding, a...Read more

These scenarios highlight the dual challenge that the world is facing. The Outlook also considers a number of other issues including the possible impact of an escalation in trade disputes and the implications of a significant tightening in the regulation of plastics....Read more

SKYRIDERS ANTICIPATES DELUGE OF MAINTENANCE WORK FROM PETCHEM SECTOR

A new benchmark for successful maintenance and repair work has been set by Skyriders Access Specialists (Pty) Ltd. when it replaced an entire deluge fire sprinkler system at a major petrochemical producer towards the end of last year.

A deluge fire sprinkler system is similar to a pre-action system, apart from the fact that the sprinkler heads are open and the pipes are not pressurised with air. These systems are connected to a water supply through a deluge valve that is opened by the operation of a smoke- or heat-detection system. While Skyriders’ scope of work was to...Read more
