WELCOME TO A NEW YEAR OF HOPE

Rays of Hope has been partnering with businesses, organisations and volunteers to bring lasting change to the people of Alexandra Township over the past 29 years, and we see our role as three-fold:

-    To partner with the people of Alex to move them from a place of vulnerability to independence
-    To be a capacity builder and leader for other organisations in Alex
-    To bridge the gap between communities in Alex and Sandton

I am proud to say that Rays of Hope has made great strides in these areas and on the ground in Alex. For example, we’ve introduced #PartnerWithAlex Day on 16 February, which is a chance for you, if you’re based in Joburg, to join us as we share stories of hope and positive change in Alex and Sandton.

We are also partnering with the Chicago School of Professional Psychology to host the second Knowledge Exchange Conference from 20 - 25 April to bring world-class development training to Alex, where we will be joined by young NGO leaders from Alex and across the country.

Based on the success of the #WarmUpAlex winter campaign as well as our Mandela Month activities, we will continue these initiatives in 2020. I appeal to all individual volunteers, businesses and organisations to contact us and find out how you can become a partner to support the Alexandra community.

It’s the people like Julius Mabunda, and corporate supporters like the FNB team (which you will read more about below) that make me proud to serve such an amazing organisation and community.

I look forward to another incredible year for Rays of Hope, and I wish you a fulfilling, productive and successful year ahead too.

Blessings,
Sihle Mooi

ITHEMBA LABANTWANA HELPS ALEX YOUTH TO BEAT THE ODDS

Julius-Mabundu-success-story

Rays of Hope would like to recognise and congratulate Grade 12 student and a beneficiary of the Rays of Hope Ithemba Labantwana programme, Julius Mabunda, for earning a university pass in his final year of school, allowing him to pursue further studies.

Julius's achievement is especially impressive considering the challenges he faced in his personal life. After losing his father, the breadwinner of the family, in 2013, Julius watched as his mum grew ill and became bed-ridden, forcing him to take control of the household and assume the role of a father to his three younger siblings.

FNB FIDUCIARY RETURNS FOR FUN WITH ALEX’S GOGOS OF HOPE

In December 2019 and for a second year running the FNB Fiduciary team volunteered hours of community service to Rays of Hope, where they packaged 45 food parcels, made sandwiches and served tea for the Gogos Hope, for a celebratory year-end party.
