As we build up momentum to the show, we're excited to update you on recent developments and additions to the lineup. From a workspace industry expert's valuable advisory services set to up the ante on our office offering, to a slew of new exhibitors across the design discipline spectrum, the outcome for August is looking dynamic. We also invite members of the creative community to get in touch and explore the possibility of taking part in this innovative and exciting showcase of local and international design excellence.

Expect the extraordinary

Expect designs that push beyond the norm at 100% Extraordinary, our upcoming pavilion at Decorex Cape Town, taking place at the CTICC from 1-5 May 2019. The theme for 100% Extraordinary is The Botanical Office, inspired by Cape Town’s breathtaking natural landscape. Curated by our Creative Director, Cathy O’Clery, the pavilion’s exceptional designer line-up includes Kino, Entrawood, Hoi P’Loy, Louise Gelderblom, Houtlander, David Bellamy and Mervyn Gers!

Members of the trade will gain complimentary access to the show by registering online here or buy tickets online or at the door for a taste of what 100% Design South Africa has to offer.

Congrats, Chuma!

Standout contemporary ceramicist Chuma Maweni will be exhibiting at 100% Design South Africa for the first time in 2019. A master of hand-thrown ceramics with distinctly incised patterns, Chuma is the recipient of the 2019 Design Foundation Object That Moves Award for his Imbizo stool. The Object That Moves Award is sponsored annually by 100% Design South Africa with the intention of advancing the local design industry through development. As part of his prize, Chuma’s much-anticipated presence at the show will be entirely supported by its organisers. (Photo by Hayden Phipps. Courtesy of Southern Guild)

Our Workspace Ambassador
The 2019 Workspace sector at 100% Design South Africa 2019 will be steered by respected external consultant, Sue Scholtz of Blue Inc Interior Design Consultants. Sue originally trained as an interior designer, and after practicing her trade for many years, she now works solely as a high-level consultant, mainly to corporates. Adept at guiding strategy, researching needs and managing positive transformation within workplace design, Sue is on board with us to assist with the strategic conceptualisation and planning of this year’s dedicated Workspace sector and its aligned programme of activities.

Lit!

Purveyors of luxury candles with a contemporary edge, Africandle specialises in oversized paraffin wax candles. Each boasts a stylish cement base that will demand attention in any setting. From tall and slender tapers such as The Grande, to the veritable Doorstop, which is monumental indeed, Africandle has a range of candle options to suit any space or need. We welcome these hand-crafted, locally made products to the show for the first time.

Yelling Timber!

The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) returns to 100% Design South Africa with an exciting new collaboration to be unveiled at the show. AHEC will be working with award-winning local design duo Houtlander to produce an all-new range of furniture in thermally-modified American red oak. This sustainable timber is suitable for the outdoors, meaning that Houtlander will be able to expand its existing wooden range into alfresco furniture pieces - with the ultimate aim that other local furniture-makers will follow suit. Houtlander has recently returned from the annual Milan Design Week, held 9-14 April 2019, where its sinuous Interdependence II bench was showcased to acclaim at the famed Rossana Orlandi Gallery, making them a red-hot partner to work with red oak.

Seen here is the Timber Wave by A_LA in American red oak outside the V&A in London for the London Design Festival.
